For several years now, Government policy has been moving towards a different method of supporting people via social care. It is referred to as ‘personalisation’. The idea is that there should be more emphasis on giving you choice and control over how your care needs are met and that your dignity and wellbeing should be at the heart of the process. The new Act and its supporting documents have this principle running right through them.
One effect of this policy change is that the old set menu of services that local authorities could provide has gone. Instead you should be encouraged to decide for yourself what care and support you want to receive from the services and facilities available in your area.
